This is the ruins of the Jemez Mission called San Jose de los Jemez. It was built in the Towa village of Giusewa to convert the native people to Christianity. The village was well established and the largest in the Jemez area. It was believed to be 200 years old before the Spanish came to colonize.

note: Giusewa is pronounced Ge-ESS-ewaa
